How to Paint FRP Panels
FRP's glossy, non-porous surface — the same properties that make it wipeable and moisture-resistant — call for the standard deglossing-plus-bonding-primer treatment before any paint will actually hold.
FRP (fiberglass reinforced plastic) panels — common in commercial kitchens, bathrooms, and other wipeable-wall-surface applications — can be painted, but their smooth, glossy, non-porous factory surface (exactly what makes them easy to wipe clean and moisture-resistant in the first place) needs the same deglossing and bonding-primer approach covered for any similarly slick material.
1. Clean thoroughly first
Wash with a degreasing cleaner to remove any grease, grime, or residue — FRP panels are often installed in kitchens or other grease-prone environments specifically because they're easy to clean, which also means they commonly accumulate a genuine amount of grease that needs full removal before painting.
2. Sand or deglaze the glossy factory finish

3. Clean off sanding dust

5. Choose a paint suited to the panel's actual use environment

Even with proper prep, paint over FRP panels in a demanding environment (commercial kitchen, high-traffic bathroom) may need more frequent touch-up or recoating than the original unpainted FRP surface would have needed — a genuine trade-off for the cosmetic change, worth factoring into any decision to paint over this specific material.
